Plan inspection around manufacturing risk

Inspection stages should follow where a feature is created, where it can change and when it is still accessible.

01

Incoming & setup

Check material identity, stock condition and the released drawing before production starts.

02

First-piece & in-process

Review the first piece before repeating the operation. Recheck critical features after operations that may affect them.

03

Final & packing

Complete the agreed final checks after finishing, then match the records, quantity and protective packaging.

FEATURE REVIEW

Plan inspection around the mounting features

For this supplied sample, the bore, faces and hole locations provide a practical way to discuss which features need measurement and at what stage.

When a requirement needs clarification

A changed drawing or a questionable result needs an agreed disposition.

  1. 01

    Identify and separate

Identify the part, revision, batch and affected feature so it is not confused with accepted work.

  2. 02

    Review against the requirement

Review the drawing, measurement references and inspection condition before deciding the next action.

  3. 03

    Confirm the disposition

Any proposed rework, acceptance change or drawing revision needs agreement and corresponding record updates.

Planning questions

The plan follows the actual order requirements.

Are all features checked on every part?

Inspection frequency is agreed per feature and order. Identify full-inspection requirements separately from sampling.

When should inspection records be specified?

State the format, feature numbering and approval requirements before production so the records can be planned with the route.

Does a changed drawing change the inspection plan?

Review the changed features, datums, methods and affected batches before releasing the new revision.
