Sheet metal for enclosures,
panels and mounting parts

Connect formed structures with the components they support. Review material, bends, joints, finish and assembly requirements together.

Panels, brackets and formed covers

Sheet-metal details have different jobs: creating access, securing components, guiding airflow or enclosing an assembly.

  1. 01

    Panels and access openings

Define connector openings, ventilation slots, fixing holes and cosmetic surfaces together.

  2. 02

    Mounting brackets

Check flange reach, bend access, hole position and clearance for fasteners.

  3. 03

    Formed covers

Review seams, joining sequence and final shape before specifying the visible finish.

Connect the enclosure to the assembly

Rails, trays and mounting interfaces need to fit the parts they support.

Identify the assembly datum and fastener positions early. CNC parts and formed parts can then be reviewed against the same interface drawing, including coating allowance and grounding contacts.

Cutting to finished assembly

The supplied workshop information includes laser cutting, CNC punching, CNC bending, coating and assembly processes.

  1. 01

    Cut and punch

Produce profiles, slots and hole patterns; deburr edges before downstream work.

  2. 02

    Bend and form

Arrange bend order around tooling access and the finished assembly envelope.

  3. 03

    Join and fasten

Select welding, riveted hardware or screws around loading, access and service needs.

  4. 04

    Finish and assemble

Confirm powder coat or paint, masking, colour reference and protection of finished surfaces.

What to specify on a sheet-metal drawing

These details connect appearance, manufacturing and installation.

Material & thickness

Specify alloy or steel grade and nominal thickness.

Bends & interfaces

Identify bend direction, internal radius and critical hole locations.

Visible surfaces

Mark cosmetic faces, colour samples, texture and protected contacts.

Final checks

Check overall size, interfaces, edge quality and final assembly fit.

PROJECT SCOPE

Define the complete requirement

Use the drawing and assembly context to set the manufacturing and supply scope.

01Formed edges

Bends, returns and access

02Joining features

Welds, inserts and fasteners

03Assembly interfaces

Panel openings and mating parts

Material & blank
Specify grade, thickness, grain or cosmetic direction and the released flat pattern.
Bends & joints
Review forming access, bend relationships, welds, inserts and assembly access.
Mounting interfaces
Match hole patterns, contact faces and the mating CNC components.
Finish & inspection
Agree visible faces, protected fits and the final assembly condition.
PROJECT STAGES

Move forward with a shared baseline

Approval points depend on the actual part and project scope.

  1. 01

    Drawings & context

Released model/drawing, target material and expected quantity.

  2. 02

    Engineering review

Process access, interfaces, appearance and open questions.

  3. 03

    Sample / trial

Agree approval features and record any changes before the next quantity.

  4. 04

    Release & delivery

Confirm the revision, acceptance records and protective packing.

ACCEPTANCE & DELIVERY

Review the finished assembly condition

Include dimensional references, appearance and the records needed at receiving.

Functional features
Identify locating/mating features, checking conditions and approval requirements.
Appearance reference
Specify visible faces, texture/colour references and permitted contact areas.
Records & identification
Agree part/tool identification, revision, quantity and delivery documentation.

PROJECT QUESTIONS

Before you send your files

You can discuss NDA requirements before technical files.

What should I send for a quotation?

Provide the model/drawing, material, quantity, application and critical interfaces. Add assembly references when the part joins other components.

Can I begin with a sample or incomplete drawing?

Yes. Explain the known dimensions, function and available files so the review can identify what still needs definition before manufacture.

How is the final supply scope agreed?

Agree the included operations or tool components, sample approvals, inspection and records in the project quotation and confirmed order.

Let’s review your next part

Send your drawing, material, quantity and required delivery date.
